Given the value education adds to the quality of humanity, I have a strong admiration for an enriched conversation, especially in the classroom setting. I strongly believe in the saying that an examined life, is the one worth living. It is also based on this that I advocate for informed personal choice which I see is an aspect of enlightened self-interest. When a mind is illuminated with positive knowledge it becomes an asset to the society. The community stands to progress based on that knowledge and, a collection of such educated minds makes a healthy society.
On the occasions I have interacted with students on both formal and informal basis, I try to be engaging. I adopt a participatory and reasoned exchange in eliciting understanding and learning. As we a prone to distractions as human beings, I employ instances and quantities to explain information that may appear abstract. As an instructor, I value comprehension and speak with a tone which conveys both energy and conviction.
It is my belief that each student has a special means of approach to assimilating knowledge and seeking clarifications. From my experience as a student, the feeling of not fully grasping what is being taught can be haunting. That is why I believe that a student should be given the necessary avenue to ask questions. I also employ reward mechanisms to encourage participation and performance of assigned duties.
Something I learnt from one of my professors has stuck in my mind ever since I encountered the charismatic tutor. This is by asking four to five short questions relating to the immediate previous lesson in the subsequent class. I am certain that this would help my students refreshed and ready to carry on with the task at hand. I also believe in and adopt a respectful approach in listening to inquiries as student have their differences in both speech and language skills. This way, the environment for possible learning is better enhanced.
