1. What is Non JUPAS?

Non JUPAS (Joint University Programmes Admissions System) is a pathway to the University of Hong Kong (HKU) designed for students who do not meet or do not pass the JUPAS eligibility criteria, and is targeted at the following categories of students:

  • Non-HKDSE candidates:Often hold other qualifications such as IB, A-Level, GCSE etc.
  • Local students who have not passed the JUPAS condition:For example, high school grades do not meet the minimum requirements of the JUPAS system.
  • Transfer students:Students from other universities or colleges who wish to transfer to another university or college must also apply through Non JUPAS.
  • Adults or working adults:Some adults with relevant work experience or achievements can also apply for university programmes through Non JUPAS.

2. Non JUPAS application process

Each university has different Non JUPAS admission requirements, so you need to read the admission requirements of each university in detail. The general Non JUPAS application process is as follows:

  • Learn about the University and its programmes

Before you start your application, it is important to research different universities and the programmes they offer. Consider your own interests, career goals and academic background, and check the official websites of the universities for programme syllabus, mode of teaching, entry requirements and other relevant information to make a more informed choice.

  • Registered Account Number

Each university has its own Non JUPAS application system, and you will need to register for a separate account to submit your application, check the status of your application, or make changes to your application information.

  • Submission of documents

Applicants are required to provide relevant academic qualifications and curriculum vitae, such as graduation certificates, transcripts, recommendation letters, personal statements, etc. The specific requirements vary from institution to institution.

  • Payment

All applicants are required to pay the Non JUPAS application fee (which varies from university to university) and a reservation fee when an offer of a place is made. In addition, some colleges have interviews, so after paying the fee, students should only check their emails regularly for updates on their applications.

Even though some universities do not require a mandatory IELTS score, having a higher score can still be a plus for applicants.

Especially in highly competitive schools or professions, a good IELTS score can demonstrate a student's language ability and may set them apart in the application process.
