As an experienced education professional, one with a long history of primary and secondary school teaching and someone with deep insights on how to foster student academic performance and personal development, I would like to apply for the position of English tutor.
I bring a comprehensive set of skills that I believe can be valuable to GETUTOR. In my 20 years of teaching and leadership experience, not only have I designed and implemented instructional programmes that nurture learners’ exploratory and creative instinct, but I have honed my skills to promote stimulating learning spaces that emphasize the cognitive, emotional, as well as experiential aspects of learning. Moreover, drawing on my rich entrepreneurial and artistic backgroundi.e., running my own education business and operating a theatre company, I have been particularly keen to help learners find meaning through their experience, build confidence, and become passionate in their self-expression. To this day, I have continued to update my skills in curriculum design, delivery and assessment, including working with ICT and generative AI.
My teaching and leadership style stems from the belief that nurturing the resilience and cognitive ability of children no longer relies on sitting passively in classrooms listening to omniscient teachers. Students themselves must be engaged in the process or learning and, hopefully, find a nurturing environment to develop holistically, not only be pressured to achieve high academic scores. Paradoxically, it’s within such a context that pupils may most easily acquire core knowledge and ace academic tests.
From 2020 to 2022, as the headteacher of both the Primary and Secondary sections of the Funful Group of Schools in Hong Kong, I promoted such a culture of lifelong learning, innovation, and individualized care for every student. Notwithstanding the restrictions due to the pandemic, we successfully maintained the high-quality standards of our Cambridge learning programmes by switching to remote learning approaches that were adapted to our needs. As a part of our school-based inquiry process, we studied various evidence-based management and curriculum planning platforms and efficiently aligned curriculum, assessment, and teaching strategies. We cultivated a climate of pedagogic intercourse in which instructors could challenge their own practice and redefine their role from knowledge provider to mediator, and let students assume greater control of their own learning experience.
Furthermore, my recent completion of the Executive Master of Arts in International Educational Leadership (IELC) – with International Baccalaureate (IB) and Cambridge specializations, significantly increases my expertise of these programmes and boosts my capacity to embed various visions and ethos of international education within daily classroom routines.
Overall, I’m an instructional leader with proven managerial abilities that understands and promotes students’ need for holistic development, whilst nurturing a culture of engagement and collaboration among all stakeholders—including students and parents. As a constant learner and talented communicator, I am eager to collaborate with others and contribute to the continued growth of your enterprise.
I would be honoured to answer any questions regarding my candidacy and discuss in more details how I can be of service to you.
