In the middle of Taiyuan in the Jin Dynasty, the people of Wuling were engaged in fishing. He was travelling along a stream, forgetting the distance of the road. Suddenly, he came across a peach blossom forest, several hundred paces along the bank, with no trees, beautiful grass and colourful flowers. The fisherman was so surprised that he went on ahead, trying to get to the end of the forest. In the year of Taiyuan of Eastern Jin Dynasty, there was a man from Wuling who made a living by fishing. He rowed his boat along a stream, and without realising it, he forgot how far he had travelled. Suddenly, he came across a peach blossom forest that stretched along both banks for hundreds of paces, with no other trees in between, and fragrant grasses that were fresh and beautiful, with fallen flowers scattered one after another. The fisherman was so amazed that he continued on his way, trying to reach the end of the forest.
When the forest was exhausted, there was a mountain with a small opening, which seemed like a light. So I left my boat and entered through the opening. At first it was very narrow, only a man could pass through. After a few dozens of steps, the sky opened up. The land was flat and open, with houses like houses, good fields, beautiful ponds, mulberry and bamboo. There are good fields, beautiful ponds, mulberry and bamboo. The road is full of traffic and dogs and chickens. At the end of the peach blossom forest was the source of the stream, and there was a mountain with a small cave that seemed to have a hidden light. The fishermen abandoned their boat and went ashore to enter the cave. The opening was very narrow at first, and only one man could pass through it. After a few dozen more steps, it suddenly opened up. The land was flat and wide, the houses were neatly arranged, there were fertile fields, beautiful ponds, mulberry trees and bamboo forests. The paths between the fields were intertwined, and the sound of chickens and dogs barking could be heard from each other.
Therein are men and women clothed like outsiders. They had yellow hair and tufts of hair, and were happy. When they saw the fisherman, they were astonished and asked him where he came from. He asked him where he had come from, and he answered him. When he saw the fisherman, he was surprised and asked him where he had come from. He answered him and returned home, where he made wine and slaughtered chickens for food. When the villagers heard of him, they all came to inquire about him. The men and women who come and go here to cultivate the land are dressed like those who live outside. The old men and the children were all at ease. When they saw the fisherman, they were very surprised and asked him where he came from. The fisherman answered in detail. They invited him home and served him with wine, chickens and rice. When the people of the village heard that such a man had come, they all came to ask for information.
Since I said that my ancestors avoided the chaos of the Qin Dynasty, and led my wife and people to this desperate place, and never came out, so I was separated from the outsiders. When asked what time it is now, he did not know that there was a Han, regardless of Wei and Jin. He told them all what he had heard and they all sighed. The rest of the group returned to his home and offered him wine and food. After a few days, they left. As this man said, "It is not enough for outsiders to know. They themselves said that their ancestors fled the war in the Qin Dynasty and brought their wives, children and fellow villagers to this isolated place, where they never went out again and were thus cut off from the outside world. When they asked what dynasty it was, they didn't even know there was a Han dynasty, let alone Wei Jin. The fisherman told them one by one in detail about the outside world, and they all sighed with regret. The rest of the people invited the fisherman to their homes and offered him food and wine. The fisherman stayed there for a few days and then left. The people of the Peach Garden told him, "It is not worthwhile to tell outsiders about what happened here.
When I left the city, I got the boat and helped him to the road, marking him everywhere. When he got to the lower part of the county, he went to the governor of the county and told him so. The governor then sent his men to follow him, and they searched for the sign, but they were lost and could not find the way. Liu Ziji of Nanyang, a noble scholar, heard of this and was glad to go there. When he did not succeed, he died of illness. Thereafter, no one asked for help. When the fisherman came out, he found his boat and returned the way he had come, marking the way all the way. When he arrived at the county town, he met the governor and reported the incident. The governor immediately sent his men to follow him and look for the marks he had made, but they got lost and could not find the road again. Liu Zi Ji of Nanyang, a hermit of noble character, heard of this incident and happily planned to go there. But before he could do so, he fell ill and died. Since then, no one has ever visited the Peach Blossom Garden.
